Weekly Update

☀️I hope you have had a good summer. It has certainly has been a hot one, and I know many families across Enfield North have been making the most of our fantastic local parks and green spaces to enjoy the sunshine.
Here’s my parliamentary update ⬇️

👶A big step forward for working families in Enfield North

From this week, life gets a little easier for working families as they begin to access 30 hours of government-funded childcare, delivered by this Labour Government.

We promised parents we would deliver, and despite inheriting a pledge without a plan from the previous government, we are on track to reach over 500,000 children this term – more than any other term and well above initial projections.

For families across Enfield North, this means:

  • 💷 Savings of up to £7,500 per child, per year

  • 🕰️ More flexibility to balance work and family life

  • 👵 Less pressure on grandparents, giving them time to enjoy special moments

  • 🎒 High-quality early education so children start school ready to learn

And this is just the beginning. Through our Best Start campaign, Labour is building a proper foundation of support for families. Parents can now access trusted advice on pregnancy, childcare, and early years education at 👉 More information can be found here.

😎An Enfield North Summer

Even though Parliament has been in recess over the summer, I have been working hard across Enfield North, out and about across the constituency – from coffee mornings to community events to business visits – listening to your concerns and celebrating local successes.

I’ve held coffee morning surgeries in Bullsmoor and Brimsdown – thank you to all the residents that came along to chat with me and their local councillors. Concerns ranged from housing repairs to antisocial behaviour, and traffic safety to fly-tipping.

These surgeries are always about more than casework – they bring people together, build trust, and give our community a stronger voice.

I also visited local businesses including Warburtons and Camden Town Brewery. At Warburtons I met with staff on the factory floor and heard how this family-run business continues to provide secure jobs for local people while supporting a wide range of community projects here in Enfield North.

At the Camden Town Brewery I heard about their investment in the Enfield site. They are not only providing good jobs locally but also playing their part in supporting local charities and events.

And I’ve attended many community events including the Albany Park Nursing Home summer barbecue. It was such a joy to spend time with residents, families, and the brilliant staff. From the delicious food to the live music and the warm community spirit, the afternoon was full of energy and care. Events like this are a reminder of the dedication that goes into creating not just a care home, but a real community.

💉 Free Chickenpox Vaccination on the NHS

If, like me, you’ve ever desperately tried to stop a child from scratching when they had chickenpox, then here’s some great news from the Labour Government.

From January 2026, for the very first time, children across England will be offered a free chickenpox vaccination on the NHS.

This is a big step forward for families – protecting children from the discomfort of chickenpox, preventing complications, and reducing the spread of infection.

👨🏼‍👩‍👧🏼‍👦 For families here in Enfield North, this means parents will no longer have to pay privately for the vaccine, ensuring every child has equal access to protection.

🚨Edmonton Police Station Front Counter

I know from my mailbox that many of you are as concerned as I am about by plans to close Edmonton Police Station’s front counter, which would leave Enfield as one of the only London boroughs without a single police front counter.

Back in November 2021, I received assurance from City Hall that “there is a 24-hour police front counter in each borough which will remain in place.”

Closing Edmonton would break that promise and take away the only place where 330,000 residents can safely access police services face-to-face.

This isn’t just about a desk – it’s about trust, safety and accessibility. Vulnerable residents, older people, and victims of domestic abuse or hate crime must not be left without a safe, local way to seek help.

That’s why I have written to the Mayor of London and the Metropolitan Police Commissioner, urging them to halt this closure.

Enfield deserves fair and equal access to policing.

🎖️ Honouring VJ Day in Enfield North

In August we came together to mark VJ Day – the day that brought the Second World War to an end.

We remembered the courage, sacrifice, and endurance of all those who served in the Far East, often in the most brutal and unforgiving conditions. Many endured years as prisoners of war, and many never returned home.

Their service secured the freedoms we enjoy today, and their legacy must never be forgotten.

To all who served, and to the families who bore the cost of that sacrifice – we say thank you.

We will remember them.

📰 Reflecting on Labour’s First Year in Government

Thank you to the Enfield Dispatch for giving me the chance to reflect on what we’ve achieved in Enfield North during this first year of a Labour Government.

From boosting wages and tackling housing to strengthening our NHS and schools, we are already making progress.

But this is only the beginning. Change takes time - and I am determined that every family in Enfield North will feel the difference.
