🏡 Helping Enfield North Families Stay Warm This Winter ❄️
I’m pleased to share that the Labour Government is taking real action to help families across Enfield North with the cost of living this winter.
🔥 The Warm Homes Discount is being expanded so an additional 2.7 million families will receive £150 off their energy bills - doubling the number of households getting vital help to over 6 million across the country.
Here in Enfield, that means hundreds of local families who previously missed out will now get the support they need to stay warm and healthy through the colder months.
👨👩👧 Around 900,000 families with children, and a total of 1.8 million households in fuel poverty, will benefit nationwide.
✅ Every billpayer on means-tested benefits will now qualify automatically - thanks to Labour cutting through the bureaucracy that once blocked millions from accessing support.
⚡ After years of rising bills under the Conservatives, Labour is fixing the broken energy system and putting people first. Through our Warm Homes Plan, we’re making millions of homes warmer and cheaper to run, while cracking down on unfair standing charges, back billing, and prepayment meter penalties.
🌍 Our Clean Power Mission is the long-term solution - investing in clean, homegrown energy so the UK can take back control of its energy, protect family finances, and deliver cheaper, greener power for everyone.
Together, we’re building a fairer, more secure energy future - and helping Enfield families right now.
🌺 Remembrance: Honouring Those Who Served
As Remembrance Sunday approaches, I joined people across the country in honouring all those who have served and sacrificed to protect our freedoms.
At the Parliamentary Garden of Remembrance, I placed a tribute on behalf of everyone in Enfield North, in memory of the brave men and women who gave their lives for our country - and in gratitude to those who continue to serve today.
Remembrance is not only about reflecting on the past, but also about renewing our commitment to peace, unity, and community. Across Enfield, from local memorials to school assemblies and community parades, people of all ages have come together to remember.
For the fallen. Lest we forget.
🎉 Bingo: More Than a Game - A Lifeline for Our Communities
Bingo has long been a beloved part of Enfield North community life - bringing people together, breaking down isolation, and supporting local venues that serve as social lifelines for so many. So this week I was delighted to visit Buzz Bingo in Carterhatch to chat with local players about what makes their community so special.
Across Enfield North, our local bingo halls, community centres, and social clubs are places where friendships are formed, laughter is shared, and neighbours look out for one another. For many older residents, weekly bingo sessions are not just entertainment - they’re a vital source of companionship, connection, and wellbeing.
The bingo industry also supports local jobs and small businesses, from hospitality staff and caterers to cleaners and entertainers, all contributing to our local economy.
As communities continue to recover from 14 years of Conservative disconnection and cost-of-living pressures, it’s more important than ever to protect and promote the spaces that bring people together - and bingo remains one of the most accessible, inclusive, and joyful ways to do just that.
So whether it’s a local charity night, a neighbourhood club, or a Saturday evening game at one of Enfield North’s halls - bingo isn’t just about numbers on a card. It’s about community, connection, and care.
So eyes down for a full house…
🥣 Full Marks and Full Bowls at Southbury Primary! 🏆
Huge congratulations to Southbury Primary School which has been crowned Best Breakfast Club in South England at the 2025 Kellogg’s Breakfast Club Awards!
This fantastic recognition celebrates Southbury’s incredible work in helping pupils start each school day happy, healthy and ready to learn.
Since 1998, Kellogg’s has supported over 5,000 breakfast clubs across the UK - providing food, grants and equipment to schools in some of the most disadvantaged communities. Southbury’s club stood out for creating a safe, welcoming and nurturing space where children can enjoy a nutritious breakfast, take part in reading and games, and begin their day with confidence and focus.
For many local families, the club also provides vital childcare support, easing the morning rush and strengthening community ties across Southbury. The school plans to use its £1,000 prize grant to expand even further - including creating a Breakfast Club Library, offering more fresh fruit, and hosting culturally diverse breakfast days celebrating Southbury’s vibrant community.
🌳 New Woodland and Green Links at Enfield Chase 🌿
Great news - the Enfield Chase Eastern Gateway is now complete, improving green connections right across the borough.
The £1 million scheme has created 3.4 km of new and improved footpaths and cycleways linking Gordon Hill, Hilly Fields Park, Botany Bay, and Trent Park, alongside 20 hectares of new woodland - with a further 30 hectares proposed. 🌲
These new routes form part of the Enfield Chase Landscape Restoration Project, designed to improve access to nature, reduce flood risk in areas like Edmonton, and boost biodiversity through new habitats and the reintroduction of species such as beavers. 🦫
Pupils from nearby schools joined community volunteers to plant trees and explore the new green routes beneath the historic Rendelsham Viaduct.
Supported by the Greater London Authority, the Forestry Commission, and local volunteers, the project is helping make Enfield one of London’s greenest and most connected boroughs. 💚
🤝 Strengthening Innovation Ties Between the UK and Türkiye
It was a pleasure to host representatives from Dijitalpark Technopark and TechInCube in Parliament this week for a constructive discussion on AI, fintech, and digital innovation.
Alongside Kanishka Narayan MP, Minister for AI, we explored how closer partnerships between the UK and Türkiye can help nurture cutting-edge collaboration - from AI research and digital entrepreneurship to fintech and university-led R&D.
The delegation shared inspiring insights into Türkiye’s growing innovation ecosystem, including Dijitalpark’s new TechInCube incubation centre, which supports deep-tech ventures, startup acceleration, and investor access.
Strengthening these partnerships helps create lasting ties between our countries - supporting job creation in Enfield North and beyond, knowledge exchange, and global growth in emerging technologies.
It was fantastic to meet such a forward-thinking group of entrepreneurs and technologists, and I look forward to seeing these ideas develop into collaboration opportunities in the months ahead.
